Developed for the Accor Novotel Student Design Competition, this project proposes a carbon-neutral guestroom adaptable across different investment levels and layouts, enhancing the guest experience while supporting ocean well-being in partnership with WWF. Inspired by dhow journeys and life beneath the palm trees of Jumeirah, the concept draws from the resilience and heritage of our ancestors, who relied on the sea and the shade of the nakhal for survival and comfort. Al Koas translates this cultural memory into a contemporary sustainable experience, merging tradition with innovation. Through calm materiality, natural flow, and an ocean-focused narrative, the guestroom becomes an immersive environment where culture, well-being, and sustainability coexist seamlessly.

Inspired by the boom dhow, this bed design captures the essence of UAE maritime heritage. The curved wood headboard echoes

the waves of the sea, while the canopy above represents the shraa alsafina (the ship’s sail).
